On March 8th 2024 I was blessed to be married to a woman whom the Lord miraculously brought into my life just a couple months prior. The following are the Marriage Vows that the two of us drew up together based on: 1) a wedding card I had written a couple months prior for a family friend, 2) the Bible, and 3) traditional vows. Sources for the traditional vows we used will follow:
Preamble
Marriage is a union instituted in the beginning by the God whom the Bible defines as “love” (Gen. 2:24; 1 Jn. 4:7-8). It is a portrait of the reunion of disgraced man with his God (Eph. 5:21-33; Rev. 19:7-9). The vows thereof represent the pinnacle of life’s meaning in as much as they reflect God’s Will and the ultimate delight of human experience according to the Bible (Gen. 2:18; Mt. 19:4-5; Pro. 5:18-19). Marriage is the union of two individuals whom the Lord brings together, and is intended to be indissoluble (Mk. 10:8-9; Mt. 19:8). Save for the case of adultery, divorce is considered sinful before God (Mt. 19:9). No good thing in life comes easy—Love is War—victory is assured only through a commitment from both husband and wife, based on the vows made to each other and to God (Ecc. 4:9-12). Thus, should perplexities arise within the marriage, said vows should be meditated upon. Another factor in assuring victory is that each spouse must ultimately put their partner’s needs over their own, as this is the type of love Christ lived out for us (1 Cor. 7:3-5; Eph. 5:2). Finally, as part of maintaining harmony, husband and wife shall agree not to let the sun go down upon their anger, to calmly work out their differences in consort and to go to bed together in peace each night (Eph. 4:26).
Vows
Steven, will you have this woman to be your wedded wife, to live together after God’s ordinance in the holy estate of Matrimony? Will you love her, comfort her, honour, and keep her, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all other, reserve yourself only unto her, so long as you both shall live?
I do
(Then repeat after me)
In the name of God, I Steven do take you Heather, to my wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God’s holy ordinance. This is my solemn vow, I pledge thee my faith.
Heather, will you have this man to be your wedded husband, to live together after God’s ordinance in the holy estate of Matrimony? Will you obey him and serve him, love, honour, and keep him, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all other, reserve yourself only unto him, so long as you both shall live?
I do
(Then repeat after me)

Ring Exchange
You will now exchange rings as a symbol of these vows. As you look upon these tokens of your commitment, remember the promises you’ve made, and never despair, for life’s challenges and joys are all part of His great plan. Lord, bless this union, in your light and infinite wisdom, today, tomorrow, and always. Amen.
(Repeat after me)
“I give you this ring as a symbol of my love, devotion, and vows; and with all that I am and all that I have, I honor and cherish you, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”
